SMI Conferences are organising a financial modelling conference in London focusing on the PPP/PFI sector. Fimodo and Corality’s Financial Model Audit team supports this initiative as it aims to improve the quality of financial modelling for PPP/PFI bids.
Modelling for Success in Unpredictable Times
The theme for the PPP/PFI conference is ‘Modelling for Success in Unpredictable Times‘ and an extract from the brochure reads ‘Financial Models for PPP/PFI need to be more robust than ever and yet continue to retain flexibility and reliability. SMi’s 12th annual conference will offer you critical insights into how models are used and perceived by all project players.’
Financial Modelling for PPP/PFI – impressive list of speakers
Fimodo is impressed with the quality of speakers as it reads as a celebrity list of financial modelling consultants and advisors. We are particularly looking forward to Penelope Lynch and John Richter (Financial Mechanics). Also featured as a speaker is Andy Hucknall from PKF(UK) who was recently featured on Fimodo.
Additional speakers include
- Hugo Teixeira, Director, Credit Analysis & Decision Structure Finance, WestLB
- John Richter, Director, Financial Mechanics
- Mzia Makharadze, Manager, Advisory, ECA& Environmental Projects, SMBC
- Barry Dale, Head of Financial Modelling Activities, Structured Finance, Dexia Public Finance Bank
- Martin Cheeseman, Director of Housing and Community Care, London Borough of Brent
- Andy Hucknall, Associate Director, PKF (UK) LLP
- Jerome Brice, Partner, Mazars
Financial Modelling Workshops – focus on bid modelling
The PPP/PFI Financial Modelling conference also features two workshops that are aimed at financial modellers who need to improve their bid financial modelling.
PFI / PPP Financial Modelling For Bids
This workshop aims to provide an overview of all aspects of a financial modelling project for a pfi / ppp bid. It has content for delegates with basic knowledge and experience and for delegates with more experience provided over the full day.
The one day workshop is presented by Modelling Solutions.
Optimisation of PPP and PFI models – Modelling to Win the Bid!
The workshop considers why and how to optimise the PPP/PFI bid model, looking at the modelling challenges involved in finding the optimum solution. Delegates are guided through practical sessions in which they expand an illustrative model to include an optimised revenue calculation, with sculpting of debt service to meet LLCR, ADSCR and IRR targets.

Disclosure
I am doing my best to schedule in attendance at this conference, but it will ultimately depend on other scheduled activities. The article above has a positive spin since I really think it sounds like a great initiative and I really think that attending conferences and training courses can improve the overall quality of financial models – especially with speakers including John Richter, Andy Hucknall and Penelope Lynch. We have not received any payment for the article but we have received a free pass to the conference – and I hope that I will get a chance to use it!
